1248 has RAF High Wycombe’s Best Cadets!
June 28, 20094 cadets from 1248 Prudhoe Squadron have recently returned from a exciting weeks camp at RAF High Wycombe. During the camp we also travelled to RAF Benson the home of the EH-107 Merlin Helicopter, whilst at RAF Benson we went flying with No 6 AEF Sqn. Later on in the day, as cadets returned from their flights we were taken to a hangar to have a closer look at the helicopters which was extremely exciting!
On day 3 of the camp we went to RAF Halton for the High Ropes Course. Although it was chilly, the excitement and hard work you put in soon warmed you up. After the Ropes Course, we went to Wendover Woods, and took part in some orienteering. It was a fun and relaxed event.
One of the best parts of the camp was a visit to Runnymede War Museum. This was a chance for all the cadets to take a look at the many thousands of lives lost during World War II. The memorial was surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Cadets also had a chance to achieve their Basic or Advanced Swimming Awards. After swimming, we returned to Uxbridge to attend a bunker tour. The bunker held a operations room which was set up for September 17th 1943 at 1100 hours. This was the start of the Battle of Britain.
Finally we all took part in the camp Drill Competition. Each flight put their all into it and we enjoyed it thoroughly. At the end of a long day and a hard week at camp, myself and Sergeant Cornbill were awarded Best Cadet and Best NCO for all of our hard work, finally everybody went home, exhausted and ready for a sleep on the bus!
