Warcop camp: 25th – 30th October
November 2, 2009Four of our cadets (Cpl. Legard, Cpl. Harm, Cdt. Astley and Cdt. Whitehead) attended the annual Warcop camp during the half term holidays. Although Warcop is hardly well known for its 5 star accommodation or its gourmet dinners, they all managed to have a great time.
With muddy activities such as field craft and lots of shooting, all cadets on camp were kept busy throughout the day.
When the cadets arrived they were split into flights ‘A’ through to ‘H’. These flights were kept suitably competitive by the introduction of the Warcop Factor! Each flight composed a song, which they sang on Thursday night. A winning flight was voted for by the staff. Cdt. Whitehead says that everyone should know that her flight (‘G’ flight) won the Warcop factor trophy!
Another eagerly awaited competition was held on the Friday morning. For most of the cadets (barring the many swine flu victims) this was the best day. The competition comprised of a round robin, and in this were most of the activities that were tried during the week. These included three different types of range (a 30m range, Warcop’s very own IBSR range and a DCCT (lasers) range. Also included was a timed run through on the obstacle course, a forced march and a leadership exercise. The flight with the most points won, giving them a great sense of pride and a lengthy round of applause from the rest of the camp!
When it was finally time to go home (6’o’ clock on the Friday evening) everyone was sad to leave, but looking forward to their own bed and some home cooking!
Overall a fantastic camp that was much enjoyed by all!
