Commanding Officer

Flt Lt P Towns RAFVR(T)
(Commanding Officer)

Flt Lt Towns joined Prudhoe squadron as a cadet in 1990. He spent many happy years as a cadet and achieved the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer before leaving to become a Civilian Instructor when he turned 22. He was commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) branch shortly after this and quickly rose through the ranks to become the squadrons Commanding Officer in 2003. In civilian life, Flt Lt Towns is married with two young children, is a qualified staff nurse, and currently works as one of the regions bone marrow transplant coordinators, having responsibility for pre, peri and post transplant care. He specialises in hematological disorders and is located at the RVI.

Flt Lt Towns has been a member of the directing staff on the Wing cadet leadership courses since 2003, and is also a member of the wing staff development team, specialising in leadership training and communication theory. He is a qualified small arms coach, Range Conducting Officer RMQ(C)SR and qualified to conduct Weapon Handing Tests qCWHT. Flt Lt also holds a basic expeditions leaders award BELA, and a current first aid certificate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fg Off M Robson RAFVR(T)
(2nd in Command)

Fg Off Robson has been involved in the Air Training corps since becoming a cadet on 2505 (Bishop Auckland) Squadron in 1994, progressing to the rank of Cadet Flight Sergeant before transferring to 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron where he was appointed as a Cadet Warrant Officer. In 2001 Fg Off Robson moved to Northumberland throught work, transferring once again to 346 (Tynemouth) Squadron where he served out his time as a Cadet Warrant Officer before being commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) branch. After a short period of commissioned service, Fg Off Robson was appointed as the Commanding Officer of 1156 (Whitley Bay) Squadron where he remained for 4 years. Due to work committments, Fg Off Robson was forced to take a break from the Air Training Corps before being recruited back by Flt Lt Towns to take up the position of 2nd in command of Prudhoe Squadron.

In civillian life, Fg Off Robson is the IS Systems Manager for a national housing association responsible for the corporate IT infrastructure and data centre, enjoying the challenge of developing his management and technology skills.

Fg Off Robson is a qualified Weapon Instructor WI(C), Range Conducting Officer RMQ(C)SR and qualified to confuct Weapon Handing Tests qCWHT as well as a long serving member of the Wing cadet leadership courses having served on the directing staff since 1999.
